FRISCO, Texas – McNeese’s Sarah Jurakova is the Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com. In a dominant 4-0 week, the senior from Trnava, Slovakia, did not give up a single set. In Friday’s match against Missouri State, Jurakova secured the fourth team point and a victory for McNeese with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Anelissa Torrico at No. 2 singles. This came after she and Hannah Brett teamed up at the top slot in doubles to rout Alye Darter and Ellie Burger 6-4. In conference action at Central Arkansas, the duo won the top line with the same score. Jurakova then helped McNeese clinch a tournament berth with a 6-1, 6-1 win over the Sugar Bears’ Chunan Xiang. McNeese (12-2, 7-1 SLC) extended its win streak to six matches with a 2-0 week on the road. The Cowgirls opened the weekend Friday with a non-conference dual against Missouri State in Conway where they gave up just the top flight singles match to take the 6-1 win. They turned around the next day to edge Central Arkansas (10-5, 3-3 SLC) 4-3 to move into a first-place tie with Northwestern State (13-6, 7-1 SLC) in the Southland standings and clinch a return to the Southland Conference Tournament.
