Gov’t Mule Rocks A Revolution-Themed NYE Cover Set In NYC To End Busy 2017 [Photos/Videos]

first_imgFollowing Gov’t Mule‘s Saturday show, which saw Warren Haynes, Matt Abts, Danny Louis, and Jorgen Carlsson play two sets with a slew of guests, the band closed out a busy 2017 with their customary New Year’s Eve performance at The Beacon Theatre in New York City. Earlier this month, the band had announced that their NYE performance would be dubbed “The Rocking Mule Revue.” After great first set featuring a foreshadowing version of “About to Rage” with a “Les Brers In A Minor” tease, a cover of the Allman Brothers Band‘s “Kind Of Bird” with more ABB teases, and a closing Blind Willie Johnson, the band got their Rocking Revue underway.Revolutions Come And Revolutions Go, But Warren Haynes Is Here To Stay [Interview/Album Stream]The themed New Year’s show played off the appropriate theme of “Revolution,” in the year when they released their tenth studio album, Revolution Come, Revolution Go… Throughout the 18-song set, the band welcomed Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton, and more for a set of classic “revolutionary,” politically and socially conscious anthems including songs by Steely Dan, Thunderclap Newman, Dr. John, James Brown, T. Rex, Bob Marley, Sam Cooke, Bob Dylan, Gil Scott-Heron, Willi Williams, The Clash, Van Morrison, Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young, The Temptations, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and David Bowie, as well as the title track from Revolution Come, Revolution Go…They finally left for their encore break after “Changes”, but they were still far from finished. They opened the encore with another Allmans’ suite, which took them from “Melissa” into “Mountain Jam” and back into “Melissa”. From there, the band kicked into Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In the Free World” (with Jimmy Vivino), which moved into and back out of Jimi Hendrix & Band of Gypsys‘ “Machine Gun”. Finally, the band returned to finish out “Mountain Jam” and round out a rocking tribute to “sticking it to the man.”Auld Lang Syne -> The Revolution Will Not Be Televised -> Reblow – via bartr61295Auld Lang Syne -> The Revolution Will Not Be Televised -> Reblow – via bartr61295“Changes” – via bartr61295You can watch more videos from the show here via YouTube user bartr61295.SETLIST: Gov’t Mule | The Beacon Theater | New York, NY | 12/31/17SET ONE:Thorns Of LifeLarger Than LifeThe Man I Want To BePainted Silver LightLay Your Burden DownAbout To Rage with Les Brers In A Minor teaseKind Of Bird with In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed, Les Brers In A Minor & Auld Lang Syne teasesDark Was The Night, Cold Was The GroundSET TWO – THE ROCKING MULE REVUE:Daddy Don’t Live in That New York City No More with Jackie Greene & Shawn Pelton (percussion) (Concert Debut)Something In The Air with Jackie Greene & Shawn Pelton (percussion) (Concert Debut)Revolution with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums) & The Chronic Horns (Concert Debut)Funky President (People It’s Bad) with Shawn Pelton (drums) & The Chronic HornsChildren of the Revolution with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (percussion) & The Better Half Singers (Concert Debut)Revolution Come, Revolution Go with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (percussion) & The Chronic HornsRevolution with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums), The Better Half Singers & The Chronic Horns (Concert Debut)A Change Is Gonna Come with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums), The Better Half Singers & The Chronic HornsThe Times They Are A-Changin’ > with Jackie Greene & Shawn Pelton (Drums) without Gov’t Mule (Concert Debut)Auld Lang Syne > with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums) & The Chronic HornsThe Times They Are A-Changin’ Reprise > with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (Drums) & The Chronic HornsAuld Lang Syne > with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums) & The Chronic HornsThe Revolution Will Not Be Televised with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums) Matt Abts (lead vocal), DL (percussion) & The Chronic Horns (Concert Debut)Reblow Your Revolution > with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums) & The Chronic Horns (Concert Debut)Rebel With A Cause (Segue) with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums), The Better-Half Singers & The Chronic Horns (Concert Debut)Revolution Rock with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums), The Better Half Singers & The Chronic Horns (Concert Debut)He Ain’t Give You None > with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (percussion), & The Better Half SingersFor What It’s Worth with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (percussion), & The Better Half SingersRevolution Blues with Jackie Greene & Shawn Pelton (percussion)Ball Of Confusion (That’s What The World Is Today) with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums), The Better Half Singers & The Chronic Horns (Concert Debut)Fortunate Son with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums) & The Better Half Singers (Concert Debut)Changes with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (drums), & The Better Half Singers (Concert Debut)ENCORE:Melissa > with Jackie Greene & Shawn Pelton (percussion)Mountain Jam > with Jackie Greene & Shawn Pelton (percussion)Melissa > with Jackie Greene & Shawn Pelton (percussion)Rockin’ in the Free World > with Jackie Greene & Shawn Pelton (percussion)Machine Gun (Instrumental) > with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (percussion) & Jimmy VivinoRockin’ in the Free World > with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (percussion) & Jimmy VivinoMountain Jam with Jackie Greene, Shawn Pelton (percussion) & Jimmy VivinoPhoto: Dino Perrucci Load remaining images Gov’t Mule | The Beacon Theatre | New York, NY | 12/31/17 | Photos: Eric Gettler Photographylast_img
