A funeral mass was offered Jan. 19 at St. Lawrence Church for Emma Heagney, 87, of Weehawken. She passed away Jan. 4. She was born in West New York and lived for most of her life in Weehawken. Emma was the youngest person to be made payroll supervisor for New York Telephone where she worked for 15 years before becoming manager of Schultz Bros. Co. and H& F Corp in Weehawken. An avid swimmer, Emma was proud to be the first woman to convert her husband’s German air mattress into the first water float which became a recreational hit in the 1950s. Emma was the wife of Thomas Heagney and the mother of Thomas Heagney and Scott Heagney and wife Virginia. She was the grandmother of Scott Heagney Jr. and Justin Williams as well as the aunt of Kathy Heagney Williams and Thomas Heagney and Linda Paige. She was also survived by her companion Tommy.Services arranged by the Leber Funeral Home, Union City.
