Additionally, he is eighth in the FCS in passing yards, having thrown for 1,416 yards, while he is 15th in the FCS in passing yards per game at 283.2 yards.Gubrud continues the Eastern Washington quarterbacking tradition of excellence as his predecessors, Matt Nichols and Bo Levi Mitchell, are each stars in the Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Calgary Stampeders, respectively.Additionally, the Eagles boast tailback Sam McPherson, the eighth leading rusher in the FCS (71 car, 576 yards). His 8.1 yards per carry are sixth in the FCS and his 115.2 yards per game make him 11th in the FCS.At receiver, Nsimba Webster is Eastern Washington’s biggest threat, as he averages 101.0 yards per game, ranking him 18th in the FCS. He also has 25 receptions for four scores, making him Gubrud’s favorite target.Defensively, linebacker Ketner Kupp (the brother of Los Angeles Rams star receiver Cooper Kupp) leads the Eagles with 35 tackles, including 21 solo stops.For the Thunderbirds, Chris Helbig (94-145, 1,011 yards, 5 TD’s/2 INT’s) has provided stellar quarterback play and receiver Landen Measom (19 rec, 213 yards) is statistically his best target.Defensively for SUU, linebacker Chinedu Ahanonu is the leader for the Thunderbirds in tackles (35) and also has 1.5 sacks on the season.The Eagles are already 2-0 in Big Sky play and the Thunderbirds are 0-1 in conference play.
