Photo courtesy All Saints ChurchOn Sunday, April 24, at 10:15 a.m. Rector Ed Bacon’s “Grand Finale” Rector’s Forum will focus on filmmaking, faith and Jesus in a conversation with Film/TV director and screenwriter, Rodrigo Garcia — a story-teller par excellence who grew up in the presence of Carlos Fuentes, Julio Cortázar, Pablo Neruda and Luis Buñuel: the circle of Rodrigo’s father, Colombian Nobel-winner writer Gabriel Garcia Márquez. In his latest film, Last Days in the Desert, Rodrigo Garcia captivatingly cast Ewan McGregor to play both Jesus and Satan.?In an extensive feature article on the film, Christianity Today’s film critic wrote:“Last Days takes the risk of sticking close to the Jesus of the Bible while imagining a story outside the text, and thereby giving a portrait of a divine Jesus who is also fully human, seeking his father and inhabiting a body, something strongly underlined by the film’s surprising conclusion.”Then on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., we will view Garcia’s movie in the church at the only Los Angeles area screening before its May 13th release. No charge for the screening. Seating will be open.Following the screening, Ed Bacon and Rodrigo Garcia will continue their conversation, joined by LA Times Film critic, Kenneth Turan and the producer of Last Days in the Desert, Julie Lynn — the founder of Mockingbird Pictures.
